Beginning Sunday, September 29, the daily hours of the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial Visitor Center change to 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Central Time. Visitors are invited to watch the 15 minute movie, Forging Greatness, view the museum exhibits, visit the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hall and Nancy Hanks Lincoln Hall, and browse the book store. Children may participate in the Junior Ranger program and earn a Junior Ranger badge by completing learning activities. These visitor center hours will be in effect until spring, 2020.
Saturday, September 28 will be the last day of the 2019 season that visitors will able to engage in educational experiences led by park staff at the cabin, the carpentry shop, the crop fields and the pioneer garden at the Lincoln Living Historical Farm. Park visitors are welcome to visit the farm after that date but staff will not be on-site again until next spring. That day also happens to be National Public Lands Day and from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon members of Heritage Hills Middle School hiking club will join the National Park Service in celebrating the park's three hiking trails and commemorating the 50th anniversary of the beginning of operations of the living historical farm. Special experiential learning activities will be led at the farm by park staff and volunteers.
Although daily operations will cease on September 28, the farm will be staffed for several upcoming special events. On October 12 annual Cushaw Squash Festival will take place, later in November and December Candlelight Programs will be held again in the log cabin. Each of these events highlight different aspects of pioneer life.
For more information about hours of operation, special events, and school field trips to the park, please call the park at 812-937-4541.
