Ben Hayes is the principal of Springboard Forestry LLC and a 5th generation Oregonian. Springboard Forestry is a consulting firm focused on conservation forestry, finance, water resources, and wood supply chains. Ben will present on the forest ecology of coastal Northwest forests. This talk will cover the natural and human histories of our region’s forests, as well as the important role that these forests have in mitigating and adapting to a changing climate. If you’ve wondered about how forest management can help restore our region’s forests, this presentation should provide a glimpse into current conservation and restoration projects.

Ben Hayes has a Master of Forestry from Yale University, a Master of Design Studies from Harvard University, and a B.A. from Whitman College. Ben has completed additional training in forest appraisal, variable probability sampling design, conservation finance, and carbon project development. When not in the woods, Ben enjoys working on wooden boats and floating wild rivers.
Nature Matters, a lively conversation about the intersection of nature and culture, takes place on the fourth Thursday of each month from October through May.
