Campfire Ban Lifted

News Release Date: September 29, 2026

Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area will lift its campfire ban effective at 12:01 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

Campfires will be allowed in established fire rings in campgrounds and day-use areas and on lakeshores below the high-water mark throughout the recreation area.

Lakeshore fire regulations:

• Keep fires small: Beach fires must be less than 3 feet in diameter. 
• Keep your distance: Place fires at least 10 feet from beach logs, structures and vegetation. 
• Use bare ground: Do not create rock rings or dig pits for beach fires. 
• Stay with your fire: Never leave a fire unattended.
• Put it out completely: Extinguish fires completely with water before going to bed or leaving the area.

It is illegal to burn : 

• Chemically treated or painted wood.
• Wood containing staples or nails.
• Household garbage, including plastic and cans.
