Fritch, TX –Superintendent Robert Maguire announced today that the National Park Service will be suspending boat launch fees for the next three years. Effective April 1, 2015, the visitors who launch boats at Lake Meredith NRA will no longer need to obtain a boat launch permit.

The boat launch fees were established in the mid to late nineties to offset the costs of maintaining navigation aids such as buoys, lighting, docks, breakwaters and the extension of the launch ramps during the drought. The National Park Service has spent over $800,000 extending launch ramps. The majority of the funding for extending launch ramps came from the National Park Service cyclic and rehabilitation funds but approximately 15% came from the boat launch fees.

Since most of the launch ramps at Lake Meredith NRA have been extended and visitation on the lake has decreased, at this time it is no longer cost effective to collect the fees.
