Lake Meredith National Recreation Area has begun the summer’s Paddle-Up kayaking program for the 2017 season. Programs will be given on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 9:30 a.m. throughout the summer. We ask that you arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. for the safety briefing and equipment instruction. Tours will last one hour and thirty minutes and will lead visitors through the waters around Spring Canyon, located below the Sanford Dam. Never been in a kayak? No problem!  Join our park staff and come out to recreate in your National Park.

Join park rangers at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, Spring Canyon to learn more about kayaking and the history of the Texas Panhandle. Programs include:

Saturdays: Join rangers for a day of history and recreation around the Stilling Basin of Spring Canyon. Tours are available for 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. (weather permitting). Rangers will take visitors back in time to key periods of history for Lake Meredith while learning how to kayak. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how to recreate in a National Park.

Sundays: Join rangers for a day through the wetlands of the Spring Canyon canal. Tours are available for 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. (weather permitting). Visitors will have the opportunity to kayak close to wildlife that is not often seen at other locations around Lake Meredith.

Kayaks, paddles, and personal flotation devices will be provided by park staff. Visitors should bring water, sunscreen, waterproof bags for electronics, and clothing you don’t mind getting wet. Tours are made by reservation only and limited to 12 visitors per tour, ages 10 and up. Reservations are available one month in advance. Tours may be cancelled or shortened due to poor weather.
