Lake Meredith National Recreation Area (LAMR) is hosting the second annual “Music and Fireworks At The Lake” event Monday, July 3, 2017. Festivities for this free event will begin at the Fritch Fortress Amphitheater with the county band “Raizin Kane” from 7:30pm – 9:30pm then the fireworks will commence at 9:45pm. Boy Scout Troup 548, out of Fritch, will be the Color Guard. Food vendors will also be available selling refreshments in the Fritch Fortress Amphitheater parking area. “This will be the second annual Music and Fireworks event the Park has hosted since 2000,” said LAMR Superintendent Robert Maguire. “However, none of this would have been possible without the efforts of Silver Welch from Project Fritch America, support from local business, and our community members,” continued Maguire.

The fireworks show will be between Sanford Yake and Fritch Fortress. The recommended viewing areas are Fritch Fortress amphitheater and parking, Cedar Canyon, Sanford Yake campground and parking lot, North Canyon, Blue West campground, and of course, on the lake itself. Three boat launch ramps are currently open: Sanford Yake, Fritch Fortress, and RR in Harbor Bay.

“We anticipate a very busy weekend and visitors are urged to arrive at the park early to avoid potential traffic congestion and difficulties with parking,” said Maguire. “We welcomed over 57,000 visitors for the weekend last year and are expecting over 60,000 this year,” continued Maguire. Lake Meredith urges visitors to please plan ahead, have patience, and enjoy their holiday. It is strongly recommend that pets be left at home.

As the Independence Day holiday approaches, visitors and local residents alike are reminded that personal fireworks are not permitted at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area or Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument. It is critical that everyone comply with this regulation, especially given the fire danger with very dry vegetation and warm temperatures throughout the greater Hutchinson, Moore, and Potter counties area.

Besides the fireworks prohibition on public lands, campers are reminded that unattended or abandoned campfires can easily escalate into wildfires; therefore, it is important that all campfires are completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving a site. Campers and day users should never leave a fire unattended, and should always be prepared by having a shovel on hand and a water bucket ready for use. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
