Fritch, TX –A 21-year-old Amarillo resident died Wednesday, May 27, at Spring Canyon just below the Sanford Dam within Lake Meredith National Recreation Area.

WIN, Tin drownedwhile swimming in Spring Canyon located just below the Sanford Dam. Starting around 11:27 a.m. Wednesday, the Borger Police Department received a 911 call about a swimmer that went under and had not resurfaced.

National ParkService Rangers arrived on scene at 11:29 a.m. approximately 2 minutes after the call was received. The National Park Service Rangers launched a john boat and two kayaks within 30 minutes of the initial 911 call. Initial search efforts were accompanied by National Park Service Fire Units on foot searching in a grid pattern in the Spring Canyon swimming area.

The National Park Service would thank all of the responding agencies that assisted us during the emergency. They were Texas Parks and Wildlife, Hutchinson County Sheriffs' Department, Hutchinson County EMS, Hutchinson County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, Fritch Fire Department, Amarillo Lifestar helicopter, and the Amarillo Police Department. The Amarillo Police Department Dive Team recovered the body of WIN, Tin at 1346 hours.
