Summer Schedule for Lava Beds National Monument
TULELAKE, Cali. – Beginning on Memorial Day weekend, Lava Beds National Monument (NM) will transition to their summer schedule.
Rangers will be available daily at the visitor center from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm to answer questions and provide information about the park. The fee booth at the north end of the park will be open this year. Please pay your fee at the booth and get screened for White Nose Syndrome. If the fee booth is not staffed, you can go to the visitor center. The park’s museum is currently closed; however, the park film is available on our YouTube page.
Park staff continues to monitor the east side of the park in the aftermath of the 2020 Caldwell Fire that burned 70% of the monument. We are working towards opening many of the trails including, Captain Jacks Stronghold. Please go to the park’s hiking page for the most up-to-date information regarding openings and continued closures.
Many of the caves are open. There are several seasonal cave closures on cave loop road to protect fragile bat colonies. They are marked. Both loops of the Indian Well Campground are open. Sites are first come, first serve. The fee is $10.00 per night, per site. The group campsite is closed until further notice.
