A special 2-day event featuring a pottery theme will be held on Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Knife River Indian Villages NHS.

On Friday, June 17, children can stop by the visitor center anytime between 1:00-3:00 p.m. to try their hand at creating a miniature pot.

On Saturday, June 18, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Brian Hushagen, Associate Professor of Art at Bismarck State College will demonstrate pottery making.  He will talk about the potter's wheel and then showcase his skills for visitors. Afterwards, they will be able to try their own hand on the wheel.

Superintendent Wendy Ross says "Pottery was very important to the Northern Plains Indian Culture and we look forward to sharing this experience in a contemporary forum.  Our themed weekends are designed to provide an in-depth focus on various aspects of Native American cultural life specific to the Knife River site."

There is no charge for the event. All events are held on Central Time.  For more information, please call the park at 701-745-3300.
