Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site will host an outdoor photography workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Central Time on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Novices and experts are welcome to attend and should meet at the visitor center to participate in this free event. Photographer Patrick Sheldon an educator from Minot State University will be presenting the workshop. He has a broad photography background with experience in diverse occupations such as art director, demolition expert, web designer, bug collector, and documentary photographer. Additionally, he is a self-described storyteller, graphic designer, skeptic, typographer, mad scientist, and bacon tester. Patrick received his Bachelor of Arts from Minnesota University Moorhead and is currently pursuing his Master of Fine Arts through the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Workshop participants will attend a short presentation and then they will be given time to photograph in the field at Knife River Indian Villages NHS. The workshop will include image composition and critique along with an opportunity to ask questions. All camera formats are welcome, including "point and shoot," digital SLR, and film. Shoes and outerwear suitable for fall weather and walking in the park are encouraged. Participants may bring a lunch or purchase lunch locally in Stanton. In the event of rain, the event will be held inside. "Patrick Sheldon is a talented visual communicator who is able to capture meaning and experience in his photographs. We are fortunate to present his unique photographic perspective in this workshop." said Superintendent Wendy Ross. There is no charge for the event.
