2011 Northern Great Plains Culture Fest Coming to Knife River Indian Villages

Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site presents the 30th Annual Culture Fest July 30 and 31, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time Saturday and Sunday. Admission to Culture Fest is free.

Superintendent Wendy Ross says "I encourage everyone to come and take part in an event that is not only educational but fun for the entire family. This annual event is a great opportunity to experience Native culture alive in the world today."

Formal presentations will be on the hour from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.Presenters include Matt Schanandore, Erik Holland, Charles Garcia, and Pearl Schneider as well as others.Ongoing demonstrations throughout the weekend include beadwork, quillwork, flint knapping, atlatl, Arikara History, pottery and beaded portraits.

Children's activities will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.Each child can learn about beadwork and make their own beaded ear of corn key chain.Children and adults may try their hand at traditional Mandan-Hidatsa games and earthlodge construction. The Knife River Indian Heritage Foundation will be selling food and cold drinks.
