Finding Your Ancestors at Kings Mountain

Many people from around the region and across the country have ancestors who participated in the battle of Kings Mountain. It’s not usual for them to contact us for information about their ancestors. This guide should hopefully help with that search.

The first thing that you need to be aware of is what the park does and does not have. Unlike some sites, Kings Mountain National Military Park does not hold any record or rosters of those who participated in the battle on October 7, 1780. Our primary focus is on the protection and conservation of the battlefield itself and of the cultural and natural resources found within the park. What we have in terms of genealogical resources and research material is, as a result, extremely limited. We are, however, happy to help in whatever way we can.
