Keweenaw National Historical Park is hosting a holiday open house at the Calumet Visitor Center on Friday, December 6, from 5:00PM-7:00PM. This event is part of the Main Street Calumet’s Christmas in Calumet kickoff. The park will host ornament making activities and tree trimming, live music by members of the Monday Night All Stars, along with refreshments. The Isle Royale and Keweenaw Parks Association sales outlet, located within the Calumet Visitor Center, will offer 20 percent off all purchases during the holiday open house.
“The Objects of Inequality” temporary exhibition will also debut, featuring pairs of objects from Keweenaw National Historical Park’s collection and objects from daily life. The objects were inspired by the “Jacob A. Riis: How the Other Half Lives” NEH Traveling Exhibition that was at the Calumet Visitor Center this past fall. This temporary exhibition was developed by graduate and undergraduate students in the Material Culture Studies course at Michigan Technological University, along with CLK High School students, and Keweenaw National Historical Park staff.
The Calumet Visitor Center is open from 11:00AM-4:00PM Friday and Saturday through December 28. 2019. For more information please contact Keweenaw National Historical Park at (906) 337-3168 or visit the park’s website at www.nps.gov/kewe.
