GROUP VOLUNTEER TRAINING OFFERED AT HANKA HOMESTEAD IN MAY

The Hanka Homestead Association is accepting new volunteers. The Homestead, located in Askel, is a unique window into our local history. They presently have a cadre of helpful, friendly, and willing volunteers and the Association is in need of more people that are interested in local history and want to see this local gem maintains its place as a viable place to visit and learn about our past. 
 
Volunteers have the opportunity to do everything from repair buildings, perform lawn maintenance, perform and teach traditional skills, garden, and lend their talents to Heritage Days in August. The Association is also looking for volunteers to lead guided tours from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day and on Saturdays and Sundays in September and October. Each person usually volunteers 2-3 days per month. Volunteers may become members of the Association, which meets 2-3 times per year to discuss and decide on issues.
 
Here is a chance to help maintain a local treasure and work with a group of fun, willing, and hard-working friends. For those interested in guiding tours, people will be partnered with an experienced guide for the first few times. Training materials are provided that explain the history of the Hanka family, describe the buildings and their purposes, and give helpful tips and ideas. There will be a group training session in May at the Homestead.  
 
Hanka Homestead Association is a non-profit organization with all proceeds being utilized to maintain and improve the historical site, the Hanka Homestead Finnish Museum.
