Advisory Commission Seeks New Executive Director

(Calumet, MI) The Keweenaw National Historical Park Advisory Commission is seeking an accomplished leader to serve as their new Executive Director. The Commission’s current Executive Director, Scott See, will be leaving the position later this summer after ten years in the role. See said, “The job is an excellent opportunity for someone to focus on historic preservation, solve real problems, and facilitate visible progress with a diverse set of stakeholders and partners.”

The Commission’s Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization, a 7-member volunteer board appointed by the Secretary of the Interior. The Commission advises and assists the National Park Service (NPS) with historic preservation and interpretation programs within Michigan’s historic copper mining district. The Executive Director works closely with NPS staff and representatives from the Keweenaw Heritage Sites, a group of 21 historic sites affiliated with Keweenaw National Historical Park.

To be successful in this role, interested candidates should have a high level of senior leadership experience, possess a strong knowledge of local history, have an aptitude for strategic planning and financial management, and an ability to manage effectively. The Executive Director participates in the management of the Commission’s historic properties; facilitates workshops, public meetings and stakeholder discussions; and administers an annual grant program. This position reports to and works closely with the Advisory Commission’s appointees. .
