Summer 2025 Events![]() NPS Fishing Discovery: TroutSaturday, June 21, 2025Location: Big Iron River Boat Launch, Silver City, MI Time: 10:00am-12:00pm EST The Calumet Keweenaw Sportsmen's Club, in partnership with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Keweenaw National Historical Park, Michigan DNR, Copper Country Trout Unlimited, and the National Park Foundation, is hosting a Fishing Discovery and Fish with a Ranger Event in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park! Join us at the Big Iron River Boat Launch in Silver City for a morning of fun fishing activities. There are many different opportunities for children to gain hands-on experience and fishing knowledge at this event! The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is graciously providing a stocked rainbow trout pond for children to catch and keep their own fish. The Copper Country Chapter of Trout Unlimited is bringing a fly tying demonstration and fly rods for children to practice their fly casting. Try your hand at creating your own flies, too! Michigan DNR is bringing fish casting and fish identification games. The Fish with a Ranger Event will give children the opportunity to safely use their skills in nature in the Big Iron River. There is no shortage of learning and fishing here! The Fishing Discovery events will run from 10:00am to 11:00am ET followed immediately by Fish with a Ranger from 11:00am to 12:00pm ET. The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is hosting two children’s fishing clinics at the Ojibwa Campground in Baraga. The Calumet Keweenaw Sportsmen’s Club and Keweenaw National Historical Park will be assisting in the programming and activities at the event! There are two available times for these clinics: 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm. The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is hosting a Kid’s Fishing Day at the Ojibwa Campground in Baraga. The Calumet Keweenaw Sportsmen’s Club and Keweenaw National Historical Park will be assisting in the programming and activities at the event!
Pre-registration for this event is between 8:00am-9:00am on the day of the event. Then, from 9:00am to 12:00pm, kids have free range to fish and interact with the games and activities at the event. Lunch is provided between 11:00am-12:00pm. After noon, prizes will be awarded for different fishing categories. ![]() Richard Marsh 20th Annual Kid's Fishing DerbySaturday, July 19, 2025Location: Swedetown Pond, Calumet, MI Time: 9:00am-1:00pm The Calumet Keweenaw Sportsmen’s Club, in partnership with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Keweenaw National Historical Park, and the National Park Foundation is hosting their 20th annual Kid’s Fishing Derby! Located at Swedetown Pond in Calumet, this event is great fun for any junior angler. This is a free event for children sixteen years and younger. Fishing equipment and bait are provided for participants if needed. There are prizes for the largest bluegill, perch, and bullhead, as well as a prize for the smallest fish. Come on out and see what you can catch! The Fishing Derby registration opens at 9:00am, and fishing will run from 9:30am until 12:00pm. Then, after a break from lunch, winners will be announced and the sportsmen’s club will announce the winner of the raffle. Please email cksportsmensclub@gmail.com if you have any questions, concerns, or special needs regarding attendance at this event. ![]() Richard Marsh 3rd Annual Junior Angler Fishing CampsFriday, July 25 & Saturday, July 26, 2025Location: Calumet Visitor’s Center at Keweenaw National Historical Park, 98 5th St, Calumet, MI and Swedetown Pond, Calumet, MI Time: 10:00am-4:00pm The Calumet Keweenaw Sportsmen's Club, in partnership with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Keweenaw National Historical Park (KNHP), and the National Park Foundation is hosting a series of one-day fishing camps for children 16 years old or younger. These fun and free, one day camps will introduce aspiring young anglers to fishing and also provide them with a brief glimpse of the history of the Keweenaw. Each day camp will begin at the Calumet Visitor Center at KNHP where they will be introduced to the park. Camps will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and include indoor/outdoor instruction, lunch, guided historical tour, and hands-on fishing opportunities.
