Participants will spend time learning about the documentation of Civil War Battlefields both during and after the Civil War. There will be a special emphasis on the different mediums used by artists at the time and developing an understanding of how art can be used as a way to appreciate, document, and memorialize important landscapes. A Park Ranger will be joined by local artist Jill Hooley to discuss the practice of plein air painting and charcoal sketching before heading to the battlefield to create art in real time outdoors!
