Seals, Subsistence, Homeland and Us

These three articles are a collaborative series about subsistence practices in the face of climate change. The first article outlines the connection between the Sugpiaq and Alaska Native people of southcentral Alaska and the land, as seen through the lens of seal subsistence. After reading continue to the second article on ways that climate change is impacting seal populations, and in turn regional subsistence activity surrounding Kenai Fjords National Park. The third article explores projects underway that address some of these climate stressors.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our partner, Chugach Regional Resources Commission (CRRC) for their collaboration on this series and for their vital work in this region. We also want to deeply thank the generations of Elders that have carried and shared their invaluable knowledge and wisdom about their land.
