Adequate snow cover now exists in the Exit Glacier area of Kenai Fjords National Park to open the area to use of snowmobiles for traditional activities effective immediately. Recent storms have left approximately 40 inches on the ground near the glacier with a solid base adequate to protect underlying plants and soil.

The park reminds visitors that new winter rules went into effect last year, pursuant to the Exit Glacier Area Plan adopted in 2003. Under the new rules, snowmachine use is not allowed on the main summer trail from the parking lot to the glacier. Snowmachines may be ridden in Exit Creek to within 300 yards of the glacier. Access to the creek bed from the road is through the campground.

The Willow Public Use Cabin near the glacier may be reserved by contacting Park Headquarters in Seward at 907-224-7500. The cost is $35.00 per night.

Rules and further information are available on the park web site at https://www.nps.gov/kefj/planyourvisit/snowmobileregs.htm

Please contact the park headquarters at 224-7500 for further information.
