Winter Federal Holidays Closures- 2017-2018
The Thomas Condon Paleontology Center is open daily, 10 am - 5 pm but is closed on: Nov. 10 and Nov. 23, 2017, Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Dec. 31, 2017, Jan. 1 and Jan. 15, 2018, and Feb. 19, 2018. All outdoor areas, trails, and overlooks will remain open.

Cant Ranch Open House and Volunteer Recruitment Event
John Day Fossil Beds National Monument Recruiting Volunteers during Harvest Event at the Cant Ranch.Learn about the exciting volunteer positions with the National Park Service. This is a family friendly event which includes a tour of the ranch, carding and spinning wool demonstrations, and cider pressing with light refreshments.

Celebrate National Fossil Day 2017
Kids of all ages, come to John Day Fossil Beds and celebrate National Fossil Day! On that day, go on a ranger-guided hike in Blue Basin at 11 am, use microscopes, and participate in a practice prep lab by excavating fossils. The park paleontologist will be available to identify rocks and fossils (remember no collecting in the monument) and will give a talk at 1 pm.

Star Program and Hours of Operation Change at John Day Fossil Beds
September is Saturn's month to shine! Attend the star program on September 16, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center. Beginning Sept. 18, 2017, the Center will be open daily 10 am - 5 pm.

Tourism to John Day Fossil Beds NM Creates Economic Benefits
A new National Park Service report shows that 210,111 visitors to John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in 2016 spent $9,995,400 in communities near the park. That spending supported 153 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $11,801,900.
