Operating Hours & Seasons

Visit responsibly

We are all in this together.
Most park grounds are accessible, but services are limited.
Please help keep the park grounds open:
  • Maintain 6 feet of distance from other visitors
  • Avoid crowded areas of the park
  • Stay home if you feel sick
Park rangers remain on duty. Normal park rules apply.

Same day tickets are now available! During the Spring and Summer months, tram tickets sell out early and often. Advance reservations are strongly recommended.

The Gateway Arch, Old Courthouse, and Call Center are open year-round but are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Summer Hours run the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Winter Hours run the Tuesday after Labor Day through the Friday before Memorial Day weekend.

Security Note:
Due to security measures at the Gateway Arch, all visitors to the Arch must pass through an airport style security checkpoint. No weapons--including firearms, knives, pepper spray, mace, or electronic weapons--are allowed. If you have pre-purchased your tram ticket, please arrive at least 30 minutes before your tram time.
Visitors now enter the Arch through the west entrance, which faces Fourth Street and the Old Courthouse. The Gateway Arch legs are now exit only.

When to Visit
Summer is high season at the Gateway Arch National Park. Come early, or come late (the crowds are light during the evening). Make a day of it -- plan a visit to another of the city's terrific attractions. During August and September, the crowds thin out as kids return to school. Fall is a busy time due to many group tours. The day after Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days so be sure to arrive early!

Winter is a perfect time to visit! There are no lines for the trams, no waiting for movies, and the weather is surprisingly mild. Prolonged periods of extremely cold weather are rare, and in fact, records show that the temperature doesn't get lower than 32 degrees more than 25 days throughout the winter!

Please Note: Outside Drinking Fountains on Gateway Arch Grounds Have Been Turned Off
The drinking fountains have been winterized to prevent freezing of the plumbing components. This is done around the first of Oct through the middle of May.

When spring returns, so do the group tours. In May and early June, there are light crowds with minimal waiting. The weather is mild and the extended hours give your plans flexibility.
