Operating Hours & Seasons

At this time, on all transportation conveyances* in the United States, masks are required for all passengers and staff members per The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s federal order. In compliance with the federal order, Bi-State Development, which operates the Tram Ride to the Top, requires face coverings for all Gateway Arch tram riders, ages 2 and up.

  • * There is a narrow exception to the mask mandate that includes a person with a disability who cannot wear or safely wear a mask, because of the disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation on the Tram Ride to the Top, contact the ADA Coordinator at (314) 982-1525 for information about the process to seek an exemption. Requests must be processed in advance. Please submit your request 72 hours in advance when at all possible. (Updated 6-14-2021)

COVID-19 Update

Ensuring the Tram Ride to the top is a safe experience.
It is our goal to maintain the novelty of the Tram Ride to the Top experience while enforcing social distancing and health and safety guidelines. Various aspects of the tram ride have been modified and are subject to updates in later phases:

  • Face coverings must fully cover the guest’s mouth and nose, should be secured under the chin, and fit snugly against the sides of the face.
  • Face coverings must be worn for the duration of the tram experience (45-60 minutes).
  • Plastic face shields may be worn, but a properly fitting face covering must also be worn underneath.
  • Guests may bring their own face coverings or face coverings and face shields are available for purchase in The Arch Store or at the Ticket Center.
  • Social distancing is not possible at all times of the tram experience, therefore tram guests unable to wear face coverings are encouraged to visit at a later date.

These policies are in place for the safety of our guests and employees. Those not in compliance will not be permitted to take the Tram Ride to the Top at this time. We appreciate your full cooperation.

For the health and safety of others, please choose another time to visit if:

  • You are experiencing COVID-like symptoms such as a dry cough, fever, difficulty breathing, and/or loss of taste or smell.
  • You had close contact with someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
  • You are self-isolating or self-quarantining because you may have been exposed to a person with COVID-19 or are worried that you may be sick with COVID-19.
