INDEPENDENCE, MO— The National Park Service is pleased to announce and acknowledge an important real estate donation from the City of Independence and its citizens. This land donation will be used for a new visitor services center and park headquarters for Harry S Truman National Historic Site. The NPS has closed on the donated parcel, which is located next to the City's transit hub, and across the street from the historic firehouse which currently serves park visitors and staff. The City has allowed the NPS to use that location for over 38 years.
Park Superintendent Carol J. Dage comments, “Harry S Truman National Historic Site is pleased to receive the land donation from the City of Independence for our future visitor contact and administrative facility. We look forward to working with the City and other park partners while we proceed through the design process. The donation is a continuation of our long and successful partnership with the City in supporting the park and Truman's legacy.”
The timeline for this important project will be communicated with the public via the park website.
