Charles E. Anderson, a building contractor from Independence, Missouri, performed remodeling services at 219 N. Delaware Street beginning in 1953 when the Trumans returned from the White House.

Dr. Anderson was Mary Jane Truman's personal physician. He examined her at the Truman home when she could no longer climb the stairs to his office in Independence. He was socially acquainted with Harry and Bess Truman through the fraternal organizations to which they both belonged.
