Dave Beck will be the fourth artist of the 2015 Artist- in-Residence program at Homestead National Monument of America. He will be presenting a program based on his work at the monument on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Education Center. This is the seventh year of the monument's Artist-in-Residence program. Dave Beck is a practicing 3D digital and new media artist, living in Wisconsin. He is the recipient of the International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge Award, given by the National Science Foundation. Beck's artwork has been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Sculpture Magazine, National Geographic, the journal Science, and the book GameScenes: Art in the Age of Videogames. Beck currently is the chair of the Department of Design at the University of Wisconsin - Stout, where he teaches 3D art and game design. For his residency at Homestead National Monument of America, Dave plans to study and photograph the historical landscape of the area. These photos and observations will appear in and influence an art video game he is currently creating. The game incorporates the historical convergence of nature and society in America through narrative that bridges multiple time periods over history. His public program will talk about the research and development of this project, and how games can be thought of as a new type of art form. Dave will be working throughout the area of Homestead National Monument of America May 22 through June 11. He enjoys talking and welcomes sharing his creative abilities with all visitors.
