Homestead National Monument of America will be the perfect venue for the August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse. At Homestead totality is expected to last 2 minutes 37 seconds.
To learn more about the 2017 solar eclipse, Homestead National Monument of America will be hosting a special presentation by solar eclipse expert and enthusiast Derryl Barr. The program will take place at the Homestead Education Center onAugust 25, 2016starting at1 p.m.
In addition to the Barr presentation, the Homestead Bookstores are already, selling eclipse merchandise including;safety solar eclipse glasses, maps of the eclipse's path, plus t-shirts.
August 25, also marks the Centennial of the National Park Service, as part of the days celebration, cake will be served starting at 1 p.m.at the Homestead Education Center as well.
"This will be an interesting program. Derryl Barr has been planning for this event for 21 years. For over 2 decades Derryl has been recording weather observations in Nebraska on the date of the total solar eclipse that is bound for Nebraska in August of 2017." stated Superintendent Mark Engler.

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska and 45 miles south of Lincoln. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free of charge.
