Homestead National Monument of America would like to announce a Civil War open house for its newest special exhibits -Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil WarandThe Civil War in the West. The open house begins at2 p.m. on Sunday August 25, 2013in the Education Center. This date is also the 97thanniversary of the founding of the National Park Service. In recognition of “Founders Day”, the Friends of Homestead will provide refreshments for those in attendance. The open house is free and open to the public. Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil Warexhibit uses the Constitution as the cohesive thread to offer a fresh and innovative perspective on President Lincoln. The exhibit focuses on his struggle to meet the political and constitutional challenges of the Civil War. The Civil War and the Westexhibit focuses on the intense fight for the western territories. While most of the Civil War was fought on eastern battlefields, the West saw a number of violent clashes as both the North and the South sought the rich resources of its territories. Together, these exhibits offer a complete perspective of the Civil War, giving visitors a chance to see it as never before.
