Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the evening, including storytelling by Odell Public Library, the mad scientist’s science magic, local Nebraska animals and animal ambassadors from Nebraska Game and Parks, raptors from Raptor Recovery, and a hike through the tallgrass prairie.
There is no fee for the event. The first 100 children will receive a free pumpkin to take home from the Friends of Homestead, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the park. Hot apple cider and cookies will also be available. Howling Homestead is funded by the Friends of Homestead and America’s National Parks Store, the bookstore at the park.
Many activities will take place outdoors, so visitors are encouraged to dress for the weather. The event is appropriate for all ages and offers fun without fright. Visitors are asked to leave costumes at home.
