Carol Hartman will be the eighth artist of the 2015 Artist- in-Residence program at Homestead National Monument of America. She will be presenting a program based on her work at the monument on September 13, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Education Center. Carol will also be demonstrating her painting all three days of the Labor Day Weekend, September 5 - 7, from 10 a.m - 4 p.m.at the Heritage Center. This is the seventh year of the monument's Artist-in-Residence program. A native Montana and a descendant of early Montana settlers, Hartman became aware of the significance of her ties to these hardy peoples at a very early age. After studying art at Montana State University Bozeman and California State University Fresno, she taught and directed the campus art galleries for 17 years at California State University Sacramento and California State University Fresno while exhibiting her artwork both nationally and internationally. Six years ago she left university life to return to Montana to research homesteads and to paint full time. "We are but passing pages in the history of this land. Pockets of memories made while growing up in rural Montana provide a critical connection to the past." For her residency at Homestead National Monument of America, Hartman plans to research documentation of early Montana homesteads while painting images reflecting visuals of those homesites and homesteads of the past, connecting the viewer to the hardships and the strengths of the early pioneers of those days. These oil paintings will contribute to the continuing story of the homesteads of the West. Carol will be working throughout the area of Homestead National Monument of America,September 1 - 14, 2015. She enjoys talking with people and welcomes sharing her art and creative abilities with all visitors.
