Homestead National Monument of America
Announces
Parking and Transportation Plan for
Solar Eclipse Weekend
 
Special parking along with a bus transportation system is being put in place for the solar eclipse weekend at Homestead National Monument of America, August 19-21, 2017. With extended hours of operation at Homestead over the three days, parking will be provided at different locations near the monument and shuttle buses will be used to transport park guests to and from the park. This free bus service is being funded in part by the City of Beatrice and Friends of Homestead. 
 
Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20 – buses will operate between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.; parking will be provided around the monument on township roads Southwest 75th, Southwest 89th and West Hoyt. Signage and parking attendants will help direct park guests to these areas. Parking will also be offered at the Gage County Fair Grounds at 321 Logan Street in Beatrice.  Bus pick-ups will take place in downtown Beatrice just east of 111 South 8th Street (Aunt Mary’s Café) and at 308 Court Street (Jim’s Carpet). Watch for the special color coded feather flags to help identify these areas. 
 
Monday, August 21, Eclipse Day, bus service will start at 6 a.m. and run till 6 p.m. Parking will take place on township roads adjacent to Homestead; Southwest 75th, Southwest 89th and West Hoyt Roads. Parking will also be offered at the Gage County Fair Grounds, at 321 Logan Street in Beatrice. In addition bus pick-ups will take place in downtown Beatrice just east of 111 South 8th Street (Aunt Mary’s Café) and at 308 Court Street (Jim’s Carpet). Like on Saturday and Sunday, follow signs and directions from parking attendants for easy access to the monument.
 
Stay tuned to Beatrice’s News Channel Nebraska Radio Station 1450 AM or 94.7 FM for current information regarding parking and eclipse weekend events.
 
On Monday, August 21, 2017, visitors staying at Homestead through the night will need to have their vehicles removed from parking lots by 6 a.m. Astronomers wishing to drop off their telescopes can do so, then move their vehicles to designated parking lots. 
 
Mark Engler, Homestead Superintendent shared “We are grateful to all those groups in the community that are assisting us with eclipse activities including parking and the transportation of park visitors to the monument.” Engler further added “for additional information on all activities related to the eclipse at Homestead National Monument of America, visit Homestead National Monument of America’s website at www.nps.gov/home.
