Labor Day Weekend activities at Homestead National Monument of America will include a "Homesteading Era" original car show on Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 10 am –4 pmat the Heritage Center. Cars from the 1920's through the 1980s will be on display. There will be people's choice prizes by the decade.
"We are excited during the centennial year of the National Park Service to showcase this innovative way to share how the Homestead Act of 1862 changed many lives. It hastened the Industrial Revolution and started advancements in machinery, including the development of all kinds of vehicles. And it's FREE!" said Superintendent Mark Engler.
You are invited to come and view these vehicles, and if you have one you would like to show off, bring it along! While registration is not necessary, please call the park at 402-223-3514 to let Park Ranger Ramon Mangual know what vehicle you will be bringing.
On Monday, September 5 at 10 a.m.special activities will take place at the Freeman School beginning with an old-fashioned spelling bee followed by schoolyard games and lessons from 12-4 p.m.

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska and 45 miles south of Lincoln. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free of charge.
