See artisans creating beautiful and unique traditional crafts at Homestead National Monument of America during Homestead Days onJune 19-21, 2015. Traditional craft demonstrators will be on hand from 10 a.m. to5 p.m. Most of these demonstrations will take place at the Education Center, but activities will be offered throughout the park.

See demonstrations such as bucket and butter churn making, dutch oven cooking, mechanized spinning, wood carving, blacksmithing, and rope making. View an extensive collection of barbed wire and learn how it changed the West. Watch and learn quilting, knitting, spinning wool, and tatting, and see a treadle sewing machine in action. These activities were a necessity of life for the homesteaders, but today we consider them arts and crafts. In addition, take part in classes on woodcarving and the English Paper Piecing quilting technique. No registration is required for these classes.

Many activities are taking place on the demonstration prairie near the Education Center on June 19-21, 2015. New this year to Homestead Days, see dogs herd sheep and geese on Saturday, June 20 at 1:30 p.m. and learn about what goes into training a herd dog. See all kinds of antique farm equipment displayed on the prairie. Come ready to ask questions--the volunteers who own this equipment love to share information about these items. Also on the prairie, children will enjoy running cornshellers and playing with toys homesteading children would have used.
