The Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) is pleased to present a virtual tour of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) located south of Simi Valley, California. This, along with large format photography, measured and interpretive drawings, and a historical report make up a comprehensive and informative resource for all.

The virtual tour of the 400+ acre test facility displays 360-degree panoramas of the various test areas, surrounding landscape, and inside the aging test stands themselves. Alongside the panoramas, viewers can explore additional content such as interactive 3D models, point clouds, measured drawings, large format photographs, and flyover videos which all provide important context for understanding the site as a whole. While the documentation project focused on 6 rocket test stands in the Alfa, Bravo, and Coca Test Areas, an effort was made to capture and highlight the nature of the surrounding Simi Hills.

The Santa Susana Field Laboratory project was cosponsored by Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), with guidance and assistance by Ralph Allen, Joseph King, Melvin McKinstry, and Jennifer Groman from NASA Headquarters. The field work and measured and interpretive drawings were prepared under the general direction of Richard O'Connor, Chief, Heritage Documentation Programs, National Park Service. The project was managed by Thomas Behrens, HAER Architect and Project Leader. The The web tour was created by Jeremy Mauro and John Wachtel.
