The sheltered picnic area near Kīpukapuaulu in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park

The picnic area near Kīpukapuaulu on Mauna Loa Road will close Tuesday while workers install a wheelchair-accessible path from the parking lot to the picnic and shelter area.

The work should be complete on Fri., Dec. 9, barring any unforeseen circumstances like weather delays.

The park regrets any inconvenience the closure may cause. Mauna Loa Road, Kīpukapuaulu, and the Tree Molds will remain open.
