Auburn, NY - On Sunday, December 10, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Harriet Tubman National Historical Park will host “A North Star Holiday Tradition” program as part of the city of Auburn’s annual Holiday Traditions Celebration.
In partnership with the Harriet Tubman Home, park rangers will lead tours of Harriet Tubman’s property and the Tubman Home for the Aged at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Young visitors can join the North Star Junior Ranger Program at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to learn how to navigate by the North Star, as Harriet Tubman did, and earn a Junior Ranger Night Explorer Patch.
Ongoing craft activities will take place at the visitor center where visitors of all ages can create their own North Star ornament and make a buzz-toy to take home. Young visitors can pick up a Network to Freedom Junior Ranger Book to earn a Network to Freedom Junior Ranger badge. Additional web activities for young visitors are available at www.nps.gov/webrangers/.
This free event will take place at the Harriet Tubman Home, located at 180 South Street in Auburn, NY. The Harriet Tubman Home is managed by The Harriet Tubman Home Inc., and part of the newly-established Harriet Tubman National Historical Park.
Holiday Traditions is an event that was created by the Seward House over 30 years ago as a token of appreciation to the Auburn community. Since that time, other local cultural attractions and sites have opened their doors to the public for free the second Sunday in December.
