Saturday, September 26, 2009 What is National Public Lands Day? National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance public lands. An estimated 130,000 volunteers will grab shovels and gloves to improve the nation’s public lands on September 26, 2009 as part of National Public Lands Day, an annual event held at over 2,000 sites across the country. How can I help? Each year, we ask Americans to set aside one day – the last Saturday in September – to “lend a hand to the lands” that we use to hike, bike, climb, swim, explore or picnic and just plain relax. One third of America’s land is in public hands, and it’s our duty to maintain them. Hampton is 63 acres of 600 million acres that belong to the American public. Come to Hampton on Saturday, September 26 from 9:00 a.m. and Noon. We will be planting trees, removing Gimson Weed an invasive plant species, and performing woods maintenance. Meet at the park offices at 535 Hampton Lane, Towson MD 21286. All are welcome to participate!
