“The exhibits in Ōlelo Hawai‘i and English share the story of Haleakalā and are a first for National Park sites in the region,” said Superintendent Natalie Gates. “We could not have done this without our park partners, Haleakalā Conservancy and Hawai’i Pacific Parks Association,” she added. An oli of gratitude and celebration was performed prior to opening the visitor center to the public.
National Park Service worked closely with kūpuna, subject matter experts in Ōlelo Hawai‘i, exhibit design, anthropology and cultural relevance to create the new informational exhibits.
