The Gulf Islands National Seashore Museum Collection contains over 65,000 catalogued documents, photographs, slides and maps related to the administrative history of the park as well as the military occupation of the area now in the park. The collection also includes over 400,000 archeological artifacts and 8,000 historic objects representing the history of Gulf Islands National Seashore. This history stretches from pre-contact Native American civilizations to the American Civil War into today. The Museum Collection also includes natural history specimens that illustrate the islands ecosystems.

The museum collection is available to researchers and select objects are on exhibit. The Davis Bayou Visitor Center permanent exhibit has many objects on display that show the ecological and cultural history of the barrier islands. Some objects rotate through temporary exhibits on display at the Discovery Center at the Fort Pickens Area in Florida.
