Artist Demonstration and Talk with Artist in Residence – Sofia Vanderlan

Grand Portage, MN — Grand Portage National Monument and the Grand Marais Art Colony invite the public to two upcoming events with artist-in-residence Sofia Vanderlan.

Sofia will present an Artist Demonstration on September 5 at 10:30 AM at Grand Marais Art Colony/Studio 21, followed by an Artist Talk on September 12 at 1 PM in the Heritage Center classroom at Grand Portage National Monument. She will share insights into her creative process, sources of inspiration, and the project she is developing during her residency.

Sofia will also be available for informal visitor engagement at the Heritage Center from September 1–4 and September 8–11, between 11 AM and 1 PM. All are welcome to stop by and connect with her work.

Artist-in-Residence (AIR) programs invite artists to create site- or theme-based art at NPS locations, offering fresh ways for the public to experience parks.

Grand Portage National Monument is a fee-free site co-managed with the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and was established to preserve a vital center of fur trade activity and Anishinaabeg Ojibwe Heritage.
