Overlooks for the Falls

Great Falls Park has three overlooks to enjoy different perspectives of the spectacular waterfall. All overlooks are within about a 10 minute walk of the visitor center, just off of the Patowmack Canal Trail.

Overlook One:

Overlook One is closest to the falls and the visitor center. The short trail to get there has a few steps, tree roots, and large rocks in the path. The viewing area is dirt with large boulders. From here, you can really appreciate the power of the Potomac River.

Overlook Two:

There is a ramp and stairs to get to Overlook Two. The wooden platform allows for easy access to the spectacular views. Most of the waterfall can be seen from this overlook.

Overlook Three:

Overlook Three is easily accessible, with no need for ramps or stairs. Two flat platforms allow visitors to admire the views of the Great Falls both upstream and downstream the Potomac River.
