Download the official press release: Car Extracted Below the Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park (15.4kb PDF File) Grand Canyon, Arizona, November 30, 2006 - At approximately 1:00 pm, a red Chrysler Crossfire was extracted from the canyon by a KMax heavy lift helicopter and the National Park Service Rangers. A two minute Windows Media video clip of the car extraction is available. With a dial-up connection, it is best to save the file to your hard drive before viewing. A body that was located approximately 150 feet above the wreckage was removed and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office in Flagstaff, Arizona on November 17, 2006. Identification of the body has not been released pending DNA testing and notification of family. A complete investigation is being conducted by the National Park Service.
