The South Rim Roads Improvement Project

As part of the 2018 Federal Highways Administration’s South Rim Roads Improvement project, construction and detours are currently in place:
  • within Grand Canyon Village
  • around Market Plaza area
  • at Yaki Road and South Kaibab Trail Road
All services and facilities are open and accessible. Visitors and community members should add a few minutes to their driving time and follow detour signs, flaggers, and temporary stop lights. Please slow down while driving in work zones. Do not rely on GPS units.

Update March 27, 2018- Closures include South Entrance Road from Yavapai Geology Museum to Park Headquarters. The geology museum is open. Vehicles longer than 22 feet attempting to drive to Yavapai Geology Musuem and Yavapai Point must turn around at Grand Canyon Visitor Center.

In addition to the projects listed below, Yaki Point Road and South Kaibab Trailhead Road will also have construction. Shuttle buses will still service the Kaibab (Orange) Route, although schedules and stops may be altered.

Grand Canyon Village Area

All facilities and businesses open and accessible

  • Access to Grand Canyon Village is via Center Road only or Market Plaza and Zuni roads.
  • All Village Loop Drive traffic is one-way during paving operations.

Market Plaza Road Detour

South Entrance Road will be closed from Yavapai Geology Museum to Park Headquarters. The geology museum is accessible, however all traffic will turn around there. Vehicles larger than 22 feet will not be able to access the geology museum and must turn around at Grand Canyon Visitor Center. Park Headquarters and Shrine of Ages are accessible via Zuni Road
