South Rim Construction Zones and Projects
Desert View Drive road construction has begun and will go east from South Entrance Road to Mile Post 250.
South Rim Road Improvement ProjectAs part of the 2018 Federal Highways Administration’s South Rim Roads Improvement project, construction zones are currently in place:
Work is now taking place on Desert View DriveMilling, pulverizing and grading has begun on Desert View Drive; work will progress from the west to the east in approximately 2 mile sections. Asphalt paving is anticipated to begin on the west end on Monday, June 25. Road work along Desert View Drive (7.5 miles from South Entrance Road to the east) is anticipated to continue through the 3rd week of July. One lane will remain open to traffic; flaggers and/or pilot cars will be used while this work is occurring. Anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes.
No road construction will occur on July 3 or 4, 2018.
All services and facilities are open and accessible. Visitors and community members should add a few minutes to their driving time and follow detour signs, flaggers, and temporary stop lights. Please slow down while driving in work zones.
Most of the major road improvement work has been completed in Grand Canyon Village, within the areas indicated on the maps below. You may encounter crews doing finish work, or striping roadways. (Updated 6/23/2018)
