Air Tour Management Agreement for Glen Canyon, Rainbow Bridge Now Available for Public Review
A draft commercial air tour management agreement for Glen Canyon and Rainbow Bridge is available for public review. The agreement will guide how the NPS, the FAA, and commercial air tour operators manage flights over the parks. The document is available for public review and comment period from Dec. 13, 2017, to Jan. 26, 2018.

National Park Service Seeks Public Scoping Comments on the Expanded Non-native Aquatic Species Management Plan
Public scoping will be held for a 30-day period from November 15 to December 14(extended to January 5) for an Expanded Non-native Aquatic Species Management Plan and Environmental Assessment in Grand Canyon National Park and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area below the Glen Canyon Dam.

Ninety area students and teachers from the Lake Powell School in Bullfrog, Utah, and Bluff Elementary School in Bluff, Utah, visited Rainbow Bridge National Monument on November 9 with the help of Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas.

Mark Your Calendar for November 6 to Apply for Seasonal Jobs
The application period for next year’s seasonal employment at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area will begin November 6 and will close once 50 applications have been received. The park will be hiring seasonal employees to assist in operations during its busy season (typically, April through October, 2018).

Child Dies After Boating Accident near Navajo Canyon Sept 2017
On Sunday, September 17, 2017, a houseboat was trying to dock on a beach in the area of Navajo Canyon. When the boat struck the beach an adult fell on a six-month old boy. The child was flown to the Salt Lake City Children’s Hospital. During the early morning hours of September 18, the child was pronounced dead.

Halls Crossing Marina Premium Fuel Service Restored Aug 2017
Starting immediately, fuel services for premium unleaded fuel only have been restored at the Halls Crossing Marina fuel dock.

Houseboat Explosion August 18 2017
On the afternoon of August 18, 2017, a boat explosion with several injured persons and possible flame and smoke still present at the Bullfrog Fuel Dock. Seven patients, ranging from three to 53 years old, suffering from partial thickness burns were transported to the Bullfrog medical clinic; five of the patients were then transported to larger medical facilities via fixed wing and rotor medical aircraft.

Two new courtesy docks at the Stateline launch ramp soon. Material for the new docks is scheduled to begin arriving on August 8. Construction will take two to four weeks.

New Commercial Opportunity Available at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
A new business opportunity is available to provide launch and retrieval services of motorized rental boats and personal watercraft to Lake Powell. Interested businesses are invited to apply for a Commercial Use Authorization, which will permit them to deliver and/or pick up boats (less than 26 feet long) and personal watercrafts.

Houseboat Explosion in Crystal Springs Canyon
At approximately 10 p.m. on July 12 an explosion occurred on a privately owned houseboat that was anchored on shore in Crystal Springs Canyon, in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. There was one fatality.

Lake Powell Area Closed in Kane Creek Canyon of Padre Bay
On June 28 a small area on land was closed in Kane Creek Canyon of Padre Bay at Lake Powell. It was deemed unsafe for recreational activities due to potential exposure to human feces. Witnesses reported that a houseboat with more than 20 occupants did not comply with laws and regulations about the proper disposal of human waste.

Halls Crossing Propane Services Restored June 2017
Fuel services are still unavailable at Halls Crossing Marina and the fuel dock remains closed pending repairs to damaged fuel lines. Propane services have been restored at the Halls Crossing Village Store and RV Campground.

Fire Restrictions at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Rainbow Bridge National Monument 2017
Due to increasing human caused wildfire activity, dry conditions, and high fire danger in southwest Utah and northwest Arizona, Color Country Interagency Fire Managers are implementing additional fire restrictions beginning Wednesday, June 21 at 12:01 a.m.
