The First Fort and Arsenal sites are only open to the public once a year, and allows for visitors to not only discover the origins of Fort Union, but also the history of the fort's arsenal which kept much of the U.S. Army in the west supplied with weapons and munitions. Both sites would be critical in helping to establish the United States in the southwest as conflicts continued to rise during the "Indian Wars" of the 19th Century. Join a Ranger led tour through the ruins of the Arsenal and First Fort, with tour times at 9:00am, 1:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. Visitors are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour at the visitor center.
