The National Park Service announced today that beginning this year, November 11 will be an annual fee-free day at Fort Moultrie to honor United States veterans. For veterans, members of the United States armed forces and their families, the normal entrance fee to Fort Moultrie will be waived all day on Saturday, November 11, 2006. Additionally, the official Fort Moultrie Handbook will be available to veterans at a discount of 10% off of the regular sale price of $8.95.

“Fort Moultrie represents the entire 171-year history of American seacoast defenses and attracts many veterans to visit the site,” said Fort Sumter National Monument Superintendent Bob Dodson. “Some of them have even served at Fort Moultrie. I’m very happy to be able to give something back to the men and women who have themselves given so much for our liberty and the defense of the United States.”

The normal entrance fee will apply to our non-veteran visitors on Veteran’s Day. The entrance fee to tour Fort Moultrie is $3 for adults, $1 for seniors (62+) or $5 for a family. Children under 17 are free.

Fort Moultrie is administered as a unit of Fort Sumter National Monument. Located at 1214 Middle Street, Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina, the fort and visitor center are open daily from 9:00-5:00 except for New Year’s, Thanksgiving and Christmas Days.
