The National Park Service is partnering with the American Battlefield Trust to host Park Day on April 6, 2019 starting at 10 am at Fort Moultrie, located at 1214 Middle Street, Sullivan’s Island. Volunteers are welcome and needed to help with the removal of debris and trash, and clean up inside and around the fort. Volunteers are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles, wear closed toe shoes and gloves. Following the cleanup, participants will have the option to attend a special ranger-led program at Fort Moultrie. For more information on volunteering, please contact Ranger Thomas Sobol by phone at 843-881-5516 or by e-mail at thomas_sobol@nps.gov.

Fort Sumter is the site of the opening bombardment of the Civil War on April 12-13, 1861. Across the Charleston Harbor entrance is Fort Moultrie, best known for the patriot defeat of the British Navy on June 28, 1776. Combined, both forts showcase 171 years of seacoast defense. Fort Moultrie is located at 1214 Middle Street, Sullivan’s Island and is accessible by car. Fort Moultrie has a park entrance fee of $7.00 per person, ages 16 and older or an annual Fort Moultrie pass is $20.00. The America the Beautiful – the National Parks and Federal Recreational Land Pass is valid at Fort Moultrie, but not for the ferry to Fort Sumter.
