Fort Sumter National Monument invites you to celebrate Carolina Day at Fort Moultrie with Revolutionary War era demonstrations on Friday, June 28, 2013. Living Historians will portray members of the 2nd South Carolina Regiment including 18th century weapons demonstrations, medical programs, children's musket drills and camp life as it was in 1776. Programs start at 10:00 AM with the final presentation at 4:00 PM.
On June 28, 1776 the 2nd South Carolina Regiment, under the command of Colonel William Moultrie, fought a day-long battle against nine British warships. This early patriot victory was the first in the American fight for independence and prevented the British from gaining a foothold into South Carolina for another four years.This year marks the 237th anniversary of the battle of Sullivan's Island.
Fort Moultrie is administered by the National Park Service as a unit of Fort Sumter National Monument.Located at 1214 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, the fort and visitor center are open daily from 9:00-5:00 except for New Year's, Thanksgiving and Christmas Days. The entrance fee to tour Fort Moultrie is $3.00 for adults (16-61), $1.00 for seniors (62+) or $5.00 for a family. For more information, call (843) 883-3123.
