The National Park Service is looking for several highly motivated and responsible students age 18 and up and in good academic standing for summer seasonal Visitor Use Assistant and Maintenance Worker positions at Fort Sumter National Monument and Charles Pinckney National Historic Site. Duties for Visitor Use Assistants include interpretive tours, talks and programs for groups of up to 400 visitors, operating visitor centers, audiovisual equipment and cash registers. A uniform is required. Duties for Maintenance Workers will include preservation work, landscaping, painting and other outdoor maintenance work. These positions are 40 hours per week with weekend and holiday work required. The rate of pay is $12.50 to $13.00 per hour. Applicants will be responsible for transportation to one of three duty stations each day at Fort Moultrie on Sullivan’s Island, Liberty Square in Charleston or Charles Pinckney NHS is Mount Pleasant. Duty stations may vary from day to day. The park boat transports employees to Fort Sumter from Sullivan’s Island. Applicants must be current students age 18 or older. Applicants must provide proof of acceptance or pre-registration from a college for the Fall 2008 semester; a recent school transcript; a letter indicating the applicant’s good academic standing from the current school; and a resume.
