Fort Scott National Historic Site, in response to guidance from the Governor of Kansas, is announcing additional modifications to operations to support federal, state, and local efforts to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

As of Monday, March 30, 2020, Fort Scott National Historic Site will offer limited services outside those that support visitor or resource protection. At Fort Scott National Historic Site, the following services and operations will be suspended in order to comply with the state order:

  • Access to buildings is restricted. Entryways to many buildings will be open but entry blocked to allow for seeing in but, for safety, no entry allowed.
  • Fort Scott National Historic Site will not conduct on-site public or educational programs or provide restrooms.
  • The upcoming Annual Spring Civil War Encampment event will be rescheduled for a future date to be determined.

The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners at Fort Scott National Historic Site is our number one priority. The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. We will notify the public when we resume full operations and provide updates on our website www.nps.gov/fosc and social media channels.

Outdoor spaces at Fort Scott National Historic Site remain accessible to the public in accordance with the latest federal, state, and local health guidance.

Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the digital tools already available to explore Fort Scott National Historic Site.
