Savannah, GA - On April 13, 2013 in honor of Earth Day, a clean-up of the marshes and waterways of Fort Pulaski National Monument is scheduled. This event is in collaboration with Clean Coast, a Savannah-based 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer organization that works to combat marine debris by holding beach and marsh clean-ups on the Georgia Coast. The event will be a traditional land based clean-up event. However, those interested in participating with kayaks or small boats are welcome. Individuals should report to the parking lot at the Lazaretto Creek boat ramp on US Highway 80 at 8:30 AM on Saturday, April 13. Individuals can register at www.cleancoast.org by clicking on the 'Trip Registration' link and then inputting their information, specifying the "Fort Pulaski" event. Registrants will receive a confirmation email from Clean Coast. The clean-up event will conclude by 12:00 noon.
WHAT: Marsh and Waterway Clean-up of Fort Pulaski Volunteers should be prepared to work outdoors. Sturdy closed-toed, closed-heeled shoes, comfortable clothing, sun block, sunglasses, and wide-brimmed hats are recommended. -NPS- |
