Kayak Clean-up Event at Fort Pulaski Savannah, GA - On April 21, 2012 in honor of Earth Day, a kayak clean-up of the marshes and waterwaysof Fort Pulaski National Monument is scheduled. This event is in collaboration with Clean Coast, a Savannah-based 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer organization that works to combat marine debris by holding beach and marsh clean-ups on the Georgia Coast. This event is open to all interested parties with or without a kayak. Individuals with a kayak should report to the entrance of Fort Pulaski at 8:30 AM on April 21, 2012. Those without a kayak should register in advance. Kayaks are available to those who register on a first come-first served basis. Individuals can register at www.cleancoast.org by clicking on the Trip Registration link and then inputting their information, specifying the "Fort Pulaski" event. Registrants will receive an email from Clean Coast confirming whether or not a kayak has been reserved for them. All participants should be at the entrance of Fort Pulaski at 8:30 AM on April 21, 2012 to begin the clean-up. The clean-up event will conclude by 12:00 noon. Early registration is encouraged due to a limited number of kayaks available for individuals.
Fort Pulaski's Earth Day activities will also serve as the kick-off the park's annual National Park Week event. National Park Week will run from Saturday, April 21 through Sunday, April 29. Admission fees to all national parks are waived throughout the week. Visitors can enjoy the beauty and wonder of Savannah's National Park for nine days for free. |
